Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be where pin collectors will want to be on New Years Eve!

Disney is going to offering a special pin trading event on December 31, 2019. There will be pin trading boards located throughout Africa, Asia, Discovery Island and DinoLand U.S.A.. The boards will be “displaying over 90 pins” and they “will include Hidden Mickey pins and pins from Disney theme parks from around the world.”

Guests will have an opportunity to trade during the following times:

  • 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
  • 2:45 – 3:45 p.m.
  • 5:45 – 6:45 p.m.
  • 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Now, here is the catch. You will only have one minute to trade up to 2 pins from a board.

From the sounds of it there will be more added for each time because the Disney Parks Blog said “..be sure to get there during each allotted timeframe to see what’s new to each board!”

Here’s the fine print on that event:

Guests will have one (1) minute to trade two (2) Disney pins off the designated trading boards.  Please point to the pin(s) you wish to trade for and the cast member will pull off the board and hand to you.  All trades are final after pulled from the boards.”

But that’s not all! There will also be a special edition Animal Kingdom 2020 commemorative pin–limited to 1000 pieces!

Purchases will begin at 7 PM.  To have a chance to purchase you must visit the Discovery Trading Company starting at 7 AM to get a numbered wristband “that will allow the opportunity to purchase up to TWO pins at 7 PM (also at Discovery Trading Company.)

There is no information on the cost of the limited edition pin, just that you can buy up to TWO, if you get a numbered wristband. You can start lining up for redemption at 6:45 PM  and guests will go in sequential order.

Here’s the fine print:

A limited number of wristbands will be available for the day and will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis. Valid Walt Disney World Resort theme park ticket is required.  Queue for guests with wristbands will start 15 minutes prior to the posted return time at Discovery Trading Company. Guests will be assembled in sequential order. Wristband return must be completed between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on date of issue, 12/31/19.  Lost, stolen, or damaged wristbands will not be replaced. Wristbands have no cash value. Restrictions apply. Merchandise available while supplies last. Subject to change without notice.

Good luck to those wanting to participate!  I’m glad they are doing the special pin boards. The last few trips we’ve made, they don’t seem to do the pin trading as much as they used to. It doesn’t seem to be as much of a priority as it used to be. My kids and husband do the pin trading, so they’ve been disappointed on some trips. I love that they are doing this!
