The OC Register has just reported that Disneyland, and other theme parks like Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego, and more, will be able to reopen during Stage 3, under Governor Gavin Newsom’s 4-Stage road map. Other businesses that will be allowed to open in Stage 3 are: “gatherings include salons, gyms, theaters, religious services, weddings and sporting events without live audiences.

When will California hit Stage 3?

Governor Newsom does not have a specific date for Stage 3 in California. He said it’s going to depend on factors like hospitals:

“Phase 3 is not a year away. It’s not six months away. It’s not even three months away. It may not even be more than a month away. We just want to make sure we have a protocol in place to secure customer safety, employee safety and allow the businesses to thrive in a way that is sustainable.”

So we know it could be soon, at least 1-2 months if you go by the way he worded his comment. June-July are possible.

Adding to what the Governor said The OC Register reached out to the California Health and Human Services Agency  and their spokesperson Kate Folmar said:

Theme parks are slated to open in Stage 3 if the rate of spread of COVID-19 and hospitalizations remain stable.

Reiterating that science and data will determine when that Stage is reached:

The science and data of how COVID-19 hospitalizations are progressing, how prepared hospitals are for increased cases and whether hospitals have adequate personal protective equipment will guide when the state enters stage 3.

The state will work with theme park companies like Disney, Universal, and Legoland to determine when and how to reopen safety and within guidelines according to Folmar:

The California Department of Public Health will issue detailed guidance with suggested modifications for how to minimize the risk of COVID-19 spread when theme parks reopen.

We will work with employers and employees on developing guidance.

We will keep you posted if we receive more specific dates.
