Disneyland is now going to furlough 1,797 union and non-union Cast Members due to the shutdowns in California over COVID-19. This information comes from a WARN Act notification filed on November 12. The Furloughs apparently started on November 23, and will continue to happen on other dates through February 1, 2021
The newest round of furloughs will “..impact a wide range of jobs including landscapers, engineers, painters, plasterers and custodians as well as employees working in entertainment, restaurants and attractions. The furlough notices also include 18 Disneyland firefighters.”
This round is wide-reaching for sure.
Disney did say the following in their WARN ACT filing:
“We have provided impacted employees as much notice as practicable under the circumstances, as we had to act quickly after the state recently announced its unexpected reopening restrictions, which now make clear that we cannot reopen Disneyland Resort in the foreseeable future.”
Now that California is facing rising COVID-19 numbers in some areas, it could be quite a while until we see Disneyland and Disney California Adventure fully open. From the investor call we know that they will not be reopening this year.
