Disney Pulls its Advertising from Fox News’ Tucker Carlson

Disney has pulled its advertising dollars from controversial Fox News personality Tucker Carlson’s show.

From Deadline

Both Disney and T-Mobile have cut ties with the primetime Tucker Carlson Tonight over the host’s polarizing point of view on the Black Lives Matter movement and the desire for justice and equality in America that many of its members advocate. Along with Papa John’s, the media giant and the telecommunications brand faced a backlash in recent days for their association with Carlson and his belief that the well-attended protests were “Black Lives Matter riots.”

According to a Deadline update, Disney hasn’t stopped spending with Fox News entirely. A Fox News spokesperson now says ad spends were simply moved to other programming and there was no ad revenue lost.

2020 is one of the most polarizing years in recent American history, with many companies throwing their financial support behind the BLM movement. Disney is, of course, one of them.

Heated politics aside, Deadline also points out that an ulterior motive might be that Disney is trying to keep cash out of Rupert Murdoch’s pockets. The former owner of 21st Century Fox seems to be making some movement into the streaming wars with the acquisition of Tubi. This could potentially position Murdoch as a legit competitor to Disney+ in the near future.
