Disney+ Rumor Indicates a ‘New Star Wars: The High Republic’ Show Focused on Kids

Disney and Lucasfilm are going to make their “High Republic” book series stick no matter what. Now there’s a rumor that a High Republic era story will be coming to Disney+ but it will be “kid-focused” like “Stranger Things.”

Seriously, was there a meeting discussing that people aren’t reading the books or comics that much so we need shows or films to reach the masses. (Which is common sense in this era anyways.) Then they discussed what was popular and someone suggested “Stranger Things” and they all thought “That will bring them in” (because something has to.)

According to Cinelinx there have been multiple sources telling them that this is coming and it is being “referred to this High Republic show as “Stranger Things in space.”

When Disney is referring to “kid-focused” they probably mean with kids starring in the show, if they are indeed going the “Stranger Things” route.

It’s a description I heard, almost verbatim, from two different sources months apart from each other. The context behind it is Lucasfilm is apparently working on a new (as yet unannounced) live-action Star Wars series for Disney Plus. Unlike their current/upcoming shows, however, the primary cast, and focus of the story, would be kids in the pre-teen to teenage range.

Comicbook.com  indicates that the High Republic authors will also work on the story.

“The site also claims one of The High Republic board of authors – Charles Soule, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Claudia Gray, and Cavan Scott — will assist with writing the show’s story.”

Thankfully it sounds like they are assisting and not actually doing the story. Please Disney, let’s rein this all in, and get some people on it that actually get Star Wars. They already aren’t performing all that well overall.

In the past three months it is almost a flat line on interest on the “High Republic.”

(Google Trends search for past 90 days comparing “Star Wars: The High Republic” to “The Mandalorian” and “Book of Boba Fett”)

Stretching it out further yields the same results. So this is why Disney wants to push it to streaming to try and get some kind of audience for this. If the “Stranger Things” rumors are true, that’s just them trying to find a popular franchise to emulate.

I think the story could be cool, but I’m not sure how it’s going to fly on Disney+ given that most people associate that as a “family” platform. If it is indeed going to be like “Stranger Things” that would skew much older.

We will see how this goes. I’m hoping they get more creative than naming ships “Vessel” and trying to make a play on Chewbacca like navigators by making them literal rock creatures and naming it “Geode.”

What do you think? Comment and let us know!
