Disney Releases ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’ Trailer

Disney and Lucasfilm have just released a new trailer for the upcoming “LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special.” It’s full of characters from all three trilogies and a bunch of references to the films.

It seems like it’s mostly focused on Rey and the Disney trilogy characters. Then Rey finds a “key to the past” and goes back to hang out with various “Master Luke” incarnations from the past. Throw in Vader and the Emperor and it gets all crazy.

The trailer has a Yoda monologue parodying “Twas The Night Before Christmas:”

Twas the night before Life Day. In a galaxy far, far away.

Coming together, heroes were. To celebrate the day.

For Rey, adventure called. And she thought it would be fast.

But there, she found a key, to the galaxy’s past.

Lucasfilm is going back to the concept of Life Day from the original ‘Star Wars Holiday Special’ as the center of this one.

Here’s the write-up for the new special:

“Directly following the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

Here’s the write-up on the new trailer:

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special” reunites Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose and the droids for a joyous feast on Life Day. Rey sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is streaming Nov. 17 on Disney+.”

We have a new poster as well:

Of course they have to throw in The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, because that’s their biggest green cash cow right now:

I don’t mind most of it. It thought some of the jokes were cute and funny. I do not like the new films, so I’m hoping this is more enjoyable. But I have to say, what really irritated me, as a classic fan, who took so much crap for not liking the new trilogy, was the line ” The Past Makes the Best Present” in the commercial.

That was a bit of a slap to all of us who got called all kinds of names, faced ageism, etc.  Ryan Johnson said “Let the Past Die! Kill it if you have to.” Fans of the new films used that ideology to attack anyone who had criticisms at all.

Now, not only is Disney focusing on Classic Star Wars for a lot of their merchandise, comics, etc. They put that comment in the new trailer. While I agree with it, it was more irritating than vindicating.

But hey, there’s Ewoks so Yay!

The new ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special” will begin streaming on Disney+ this Life Day- November 17th.
