Disney has been more miss than hit with a lot of things lately, especially when it comes to remakes and reboots for Disney+, Home Sweet Home Alone I’m looking at you. At San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) they released a teaser for their upcoming ‘National Treasure’ show on their streaming service called ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ and the lead isn’t Nicolas Cage.

Now to be fair, it has been known for quite some time that Disney wasn’t using Nicolas Cage for the show. However there is supposedly a third film also in development and hopefully they get Nick Cage for that one. Heaven help them if they don’t.

We will be getting Justin Bartha back as Riley Poole.

The trailer is only a few seconds and Disney did what Hollywood has been doing lately, they replaced a male lead with a female one ( Lisette Alexis).

This is the cast:

Lisette Alexis, Jordan Rodrigues, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano and Jake Austin Walker.

Alexis plays Jess Morale who is a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient and she’s searching for treasure and her family’s past. So a look at a different type of historical experience from another culture.

Fans are not happy. Personally, it’s just the show and not the film, so it doesn’t bother me all that much, but I can understand why some people are upset.

I feel bad for the actress, she could give a great performance and it wouldn’t matter. Nicholas Cage pretty much made the movie work. it’s just a generic indiana jones rip off without him. It’s like having the mummy without Brendan Fraiser.

I mean, it might be good but why do this? If she’s a completely new character that has no relation to the movies, just give it a different name. I can’t imagine National Treasure without Nic Cage or the actors who played Riley and Abigail.

People are NOT happy about this. If they haven’t already locked Niclas Cage in for a third film, they might as well stop now because people are not on board without him.

Wow! The ratio on this one is strong. It reminds me of the “Home Sweet Home Alone” backlash and that one bombed.

Or they will just call everyone names like “misogynist” or “racist” if they don’t like it.
