Disney Needs To Offer Holiday Events For the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

Disney has been boasting about their new ‘Star Wars’ Galactic Starcruiser hotel during investor calls, articles and more. While it was initially booked up through June, and a bit later, July, the bookings are seemingly dropping off. Previously it was suggested that Disney may consider doing holiday events like “Life Day” to make the experience more repeatable for some guests, while enticing more guests in.

The biggest problem their 2-night hotel stay has is it’s price tag. As predicted those die-hard fans that wanted to go, went early and now the remaining months aren’t booking up. Many can not afford the $4,800-$6,000 starting price for what amounts to less than 48 hours in this experience. Those that are willing to pay it have gone and have very little reason to return.

There is talk they could offer one day ‘excursions’ but they would likely have to be less than 1/2 the cost of the full trip. I can’t see people paying $2,400-$3,000 for a day anymore than they are willing to pay double that for less than two days. But it might entice some initially.

Currently only about half of August is booked up and the remainder of the year is wide open. Not much has changed in bookings over the past few months.

Here is the bookings calendar for today:

This is from over six weeks ago. As you can see very little has changed:

Disney needs to do something to increase bookings.

Obviously a significant cost reduction would bring people in, but that will likely only happen if they cut down the experience significantly as well. Another possible solution is doing what the Disney Cruise Line arm does and offer holiday cruising events.

Disney Cruise Line offers Halloween and Christmas-time cruises with special entertainment, characters, décor and more. They even got rid of the popular “Star Wars Day at Sea” sailings as the Galactic Starcruiser is a year round version. Since the Starcruiser is more like one of the cruise ships than a regular Disney resort hotel, it could perhaps benefit from a holiday offering.

They could easily do a “Life Day” event in November and December and some kind of Halloween offering could be developed for September-October. Of course, after these are over they are back to square one, but it could increase demand through the end of the fiscal year and into Q1 2023 so they have something to distract the investors with.

It’s not all fine here. No matter what they say. They charge ridiculous prices for a few hours of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so I’m sure they could win some books with holiday offerings on the Starcruiser.

One word of caution to Disney though, do not increase the price if you theme some “cruises.”
