Everyone keeps talking about the ways Disney is finding to charge ridiculous prices for “exclusive items.” Today I have another one of those items for you. Right now, on Shop Disney, they offering a felt doll of Belle from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ for $1,395.
As an artist, I know how much work goes into felting and felting a doll like this isn’t easy, however most people are not going to pay over $1,300 for a doll, let alone a felt one, even if there are only 500 of them from Steiff.
Plus, a lot of people are allergic to wool.
Let’s take a look!
Limited Edition, Beauty and the Beast 30th Anniversary Belle Felt Doll – $1,395
Here’s the write-up:
“Belle from Beauty and the Beast makes her grand appearance as Steiff’s very first felt doll Princess. Commemorating the 30th anniversary of Disney’s animated classic, this limited edition doll features moving arms and legs, wears a yellow gathered chiffon dress with a gold-colored bodice, white pearl earrings, and elegant felt gloves.
- Limited Edition of 500 worldwide
- Yellow gathered chiffon dress with a gold-colored bodice
- White pearl earrings
- Elegant felt gloves
- Golden yellow satin shoes
- Steiff’s very first felt doll Princess
- Full, styled hair
- Her arms and legs are movable, and have been delicately hand-painted
- Inspired by the 30th Anniversary of Disney’s animated classic Beauty and the Beast (1991)
- Wool felt
- 14” H”
I do appreciate the level of detail and craftsmanship on this piece and the price is probably worth it given the amount of skill involved. But it’s just another high priced, Disney piece that they know people will pay for to feel they are superior or like they have special Disney bragging rights. Personally, if you want to pay $1,395 for a 14″ doll go for it. At least the $1,000 Mickey ears or $750 Minnie Ear Headband are useable items.
