Disney has announced that Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 are finally coming to Galaxy’s Edge, but only in Disneyland and for a limited event. Galaxy’s Edge has been open for almost six years to put the ONE CHARACTER that should have been there on day one!
Here is the announcement post.

Luke Skywalker’s appearance is listed as being for the “Seasons of the Force” event at Disneyland. Apparently, Disneyland can still have cool events, and Walt Disney World won’t even bring back Star Wars Days or something similar.
Seasons of the Force will run at Disneyland from March 28 to May 11, 2025.
Here is the write-up from the Disneyland website:
“Fire of the Rising Moons” will perform nightly at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with epic, new projection effects and galactic music – enhanced with fireworks on select nights. Plus, Hyperspace Mountain will return to Tomorrowland, where you can hurtle through the galaxy and encounter TIE fighters along the way!”
Disney indicates more information will follow on Luke and R2’s appearance on February 10, 2025.
People on social media have mixed reactions. Why has it taken so long? Why isn’t this coming to Orlando? Make Galaxy’s Edge Original Trilogy, and more
Fans want to know why Disney suddenly cares about a character they have seemingly gone out of their way to sideline.
This is like finally bringing in Batman to a Gotham theme park that strangely didn’t have Batman for the first six years of its existence

He should’ve been there on DAY ONE.
Along with Vader, Han, Leia, Lando and Yoda.
Just rip the band-aid off and reskin Batuu as Tatooine.
That’s what the Star Wars fans with MONEY want.— Kneon (@Kneon) February 7, 2025

Oh, so we’re embracing Luke now? About time was almost a decade ago.

They changed plans on keeping characters to the galaxy’s edge timeline real fast.

In an interview with Dreamfinders podcast in 2019 he said,
“So there was that expectation (of the original trilogy) which you know certainly I would say is probably equal with the expectations of the guests for Harry Potter.
So you have those expectations, you have the physical limitations that we had to deal with of getting that park ready for such large expansions, as toy story land and Star Wars. and then on top of the story line, the original concepts for Star Wars land was not going to be Batuu. it was going to be either one or two known planets within the STar Wars ecosphere if you will.
(…) so they had been working and I had been working on STar Wars Land and Toy Story Land simultaneously for a year and Bob Iger basically said he had seen some of the early dailies from the sequels and he said “No we’ve got to use the three new movies’ story line. We’re not going to be using the older 6 movies. just because he saw how good they were going to be.”
Maybe they are testing the waters to see how Luke’s appearance goes. But their efforts to minimize the character for a “new” Skywalker, their Skywalker, has not worked out. This is a big reason “Star Wars” like “Marvel” are in the crapper.
Is this a good first step toward rebuilding the franchise, or will they just find yet another way to further push away the fans?
