Disney is facing yet another lawsuit. This class action suit concerns the Nullbulge hack, which leaked 1.1TB of data to the internet, including 44 million internal messages, 13,000 PDFs, over 18,000 spreadsheets, information on Genie+ and Disney+, and even employee information. Due to the hack, Disney is switching from Slack to another program.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the information in the breach specifically contained Disney Cruise Line employee passport numbers, visa information, addresses, current assignments, and places of birth. Some Disneyland guests with restaurant reservations also had information leaked.
Now, the Walt Disney Company is being accused of “negligence, breach of implied contract,” and other charges in a 32-page complaint filed by Scott Margel in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The claim argues that people gave Disney access to their personal information for employment or other reasons, and it was released in the data breach.
The complaint argues that the potential victims are being kept in the dark about what was stolen. According to the L.A. Times, they “remain, even today, in the dark regarding which particular data was stolen, the particular malware used, and what steps are being taken, if any, to secure their [personal information] going forward.”
“The plaintiff and class members “are, thus, left to speculate as to where their [data] ended up, who has used it and for what potentially nefarious purposes.”
This suit, which seeks unspecified damages, reinforced security, and a jury trial, could potentially involve thousands of people.
Hopefully, Disney’s lawyers will not try to argue that using Disney+, the My Disney Experience app, or working for the company somehow waives the right to trial by jury as they did with the wrongful death lawsuit for Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan.
This is just another high-profile lawsuit that will be added to the current pile at the Walt Disney Company.
