When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019 they acquired multiple intellectual properties to add to their library. Franchises like Home Alone, Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Planet of the Apes and may more. One notable part of the acquisition included the animation studio BlueSky.

BlueSky Studios was responsible for multiple films such as Ice Age, Rio, Robots, The Peanuts Movie and Epic. When Disney bought Fox many were unsure what was planned for the animation studio as it was seen as competition to Disney Animation and Pixar. But the studio was closed in early 2021 and replaced by 20th Century Animation which just recently released Ron’s Gone Wrong. But something was recently spotted that gives us a glimpse into the future of the company.

The upcoming Ice Age 6 AKA Ice Age: The Adventures of Buck Wild which will release exclusively on Disney Plus later this month, had a press kit released, and in it includes some interesting information when talking about the film’s screenwriter Jim Hecht:

He is currently developing an animated series based on a New York Times best-selling children’s book and writing streaming movies for 20th Century Studios/Disney+. The feature projects include the next installment in the “Ice Age” franchise, the next installment in the ‘Rio’ franchise and an animated feature version of the ‘Night at the Museum’ movie franchise for 21 Laps Entertainment and Disney+.

The section mentions that not only is Disney planning on reviving the Rio franchise, but also the popular Night at the Museum series which starred Ben Stiller and Robin Williams. Seeing Disney revive both Ice Age and Rio makes me think they should have just kept the studio alive to develop Disney Plus projects exclusively, now it appears that Pixar is the one being relegated to that spot.

Ice Age: The Adventures of Buck Wild is set to release on January 28th.
