Disney Cruise line will likely cancel several cruise aboard the Disney Wonder and one aboard the Disney Magic after the Canadian government gave two orders that prohibit the use of pleasure craft, including cruise ships, in the Canadian Arctic waters. This ban will be in effect until February 28, 2022.
Passenger ship with more than 12 people on board will be prohibited from entering Arctic coastal waters. Cruise ships with 100 or more people are prohibited from Canadian waters.
Essential passenger water vehicles like ferries will continue to follow the local guidelines.
The Canadian government is advising citizens and permanent residents not to travel on cruise ships outside of the country at this time.
The Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra put out this statement:
“As Canadians continue to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19, our government continues to work hard to ensure Canada’s transportation system remains safe. Temporary prohibitions to cruise vessels and pleasure craft are essential to continue to protect the most vulnerable among our communities and avoid overwhelming our health care systems. This is the right and responsible thing to do.”
This is going to give Disney Cruise Line more losses as several cruises left from Canadian waters. Not to mention that Canadian citizens are being asked not to cruise outside of their country.
