A passenger who had recently been sailing aboard the Disney Wonder has just tested positive for COVID-19 and was confirmed by Eric McDonald, Medical Director with the County Epidemiology and Immunization Branch.
The Disney Wonder sailed out of New Orleans on March 6th for a 14-night Panama Canal Cruise with stops in Mexico, Cayman Islands, and Colombia. Due to the pandemic the ship skipped several ports and docked in the Port of San Diego on March 19th. Disney Cruise Lines had announced they would comply with the Cruise Lines International Association called for U.S. cruise ships to voluntarily suspend cruises for 30 days on March 14th.
When the ship arrived only one of the passengers and crew showed symptoms of COVID-19, although on crew member did test positive for Influenza A and B. They received treatment.
On March 27th a previous passenger on that cruise tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to the hospital.
According to NBC 7, San Diego:
“The Port of San Diego did install handwashing stations for the passengers when they disembarked the ship and were given hand sanitizers. The port also is fully sanitizing the port before and after each ship disembarks.
No ship has or will be allowed in San Diego Bay without first being cleared by the Port, San Diego County health officials, the CDC, the Coast Guard, and Customs and Border Protection, Port of San Diego said.”
