Disney has announced that ‘Mulan’ will get a theatrical release in China, and frankly no one is surprised since they went out of their way to make sure the film would appeal to Chinese audiences.
According to Deadline Disney posted the announcement to their Weibo account and said that the film would be released “in the Middle Kingdom” and said “the magnolia blossoms live up to expectations and come as promised” and “the theater is about to bloom”.
Disney had already stated that some markets, without Disney+, and who had theaters open, would be getting a theatrical release of the film.
‘Mulan’ will be releasing on Disney+, as a for purchase title, on September 4th. No date has been given for the theatrical release in China and other locations yet, but it will probably be close to that date.
Many theater owners, especially in the global market, are upset that Disney is releasing ‘Mulan’ to Disney+ in their area. A lot of countries do have theaters open, but Disney is putting the film up for purchase through their Disney+ streaming app instead.
