Broadway actor Billy Porter will play a “genderless” Fairy Godmother (called Fab G, the Fairy Godparent) in the upcoming live-action remake of Cinderella for Amazon Studios.
This new take on Cinderella is the brainchild of James Corden and will also star Elsa herself, Idina Menzel, as the wicked stepmother.
Porter gave Twitter a sneak peek at “Fab G” earlier this week.

Porter spoke about his role in the movie to HelloGiggles…
“My tagline is ‘magic has no gender,'” he explains now. “It’s not about gender. It’s about magic and magic is about love…that is really what Cinderella is about. And I hope that everyone will take that message away when they see [the movie] and incorporate it into their lives and how they move through their lives.”
Porter also said he fully expected backlash, and the outlet made comparisons to the all-female Ghostbusters 2016 reboot. Indeed, some conservative outlets are already questioning the decision.
No, this definitely isn’t your father’s (or parents’) Cinderella.
Disney rebooted Cinderella itself in live-action back in 2015.
