In a very heartwarming video, Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, sent a message to a young boy who saved his sister from a dog attack on July 9th. Bridger Walker, 6, from Wyoming saved his 4-year old sister from a German shepherd mix dog that was charging toward her at a friends house.
Bridger shielded his sister but got attacked instead, with the dog biting him in the cheek. The injury required 90 stitches and 2-hours of surgery. According to CNN, when his father asked why he jumped between his sister and the dog, Bridger said “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.” It’s heartbreaking to hear that a child said that, but he jumped in there anyways.
When the dog attacked he yelled for his sister to run, and after the dog let go Bridger got his sister and led her to another part of the yard where he thought she would be safe.
Chris Evans reached out to the boy with a video and the promise of a real shield:

Here’s what Evans said:
“This is a message for Bridger. Hey Bridger, Captain America here, how are you doing buddy? So I read your story. I saw what you did, and I’m sure you heard a lot of this over the last couple days, but let me be the next one to tell you, pal, you’re a hero. What you did was so brave, so selfless, your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you. I’m going to track down your address and I’m going to send you an authentic Captain America shield because pal, you deserve it. Keep being the man you are. We need people like you. Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I’ve seen I don’t think there’s much that can slow you down. Bye Buddy.”

After the attack, the boy’s aunt started an Instagram page for him where she mentioned that he liked the Avengers. The page came to the attention of actress Anne Hathaway. She posted “I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one. “I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger. Wishing you an easeful recovery, and many cool looking rocks. Hey @markruffalo, do you need a teammate??”
After this the family says they’ve heard from Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Zachary Levi, Robbie Amell, the Russo brothers and more. Many are reaching out and the World Boxing Council also made him and honorary member.
The dog owner got the dog away and called for help. The owner wanted to put the dog to sleep but Bridger did not want it to be killed. I’m not sure what will happen to the dog.
