This past Tuesday, I celebrated “Taco Tuesday” at Universal Studios Florida. Well, the Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck offers the signature tacos there. There have been some menu changes recently at this place. As a result, I wanted to try the new version of the Carne Asada tacos there. Historically, the tacos here serve as one of the best budget dining options at Universal Orlando. However, prices increased slightly recently so evaluating the budget worthiness of these tacos governs as an important decision for me.
So how were these tacos? I will start with the bad news. If you preferred the more “American” style of cheese in your taco, that option no longer exist. All tacos there now are topped with onions and cilantro in a more Mexican style street taco way.
Sadly, the steak quality rates low for these types of tacos. Also, the portion size of the tacos is noticeably smaller than before. In addition, your portion of chips decreased also. When you combine heightened price, then those negatives must be considered.
On the plus side, several new positives occur. The first most obvious one involves that the tacos come with red or green salsa now. Previously, the chips lacked anything to dip them within. I would strongly suggest getting the green salsa over the red variety though.
The taco truck also displays taco sauce and hot sauce in packets at the pickup window. These packets were not offered commonly before. The taco sauce pairs well with the carne asada and the pork carnitas tacos especially
Also, the onions and cilantro combination add solid flavor to these tacos. Some might feel there were too many onions, but the flavor works overall. Despite the lower quality of the steak, the flavor/seasoning of the steak tasted excellent.
Speaking of steak, the portion size equals something over expected theme park quick service food. If anything, the quantity of steak increased even though the tortilla to hold that steak decreased.
Based on my experience, the tacos are still rated high for theme park quick service food. My endorsement of them lowers some due to increased price. However, we should all expect higher prices in our current cultural conditions. If you decide to get these tacos, you will not be disappointed though.
