There was an incident today at the construction area for the new “Cove” hotel by Marriott that is being built near the Swan and Dolphin. Apparently lightning struck a crane and it caused a fire. But it was quickly put out and crews returned to work.

Lightning hit a crane at the Swan and Dolphin construction site at Disney. These pics were 10 minutes ago, fire is out noise. Scariest, loudest thing I’ve ever seen @WFTV pic.twitter.com/mKI2oCSx3b

Here are some closer photos of the construction crane that caught fire at Disney World this morning. We aren’t able to immediately identify ant damage, but did confirm with Cast Members in the area that it was struck by lightning.

The Cove hotel will be a sister hotel to the Swan and Dolphin. It’s focus will be more as an “event” hotel for businesses, pageants, and more.
No reports have yet come out about anyone being injured, so hopefully everyone is okay.
