In another sign that the KidZone area in Universal Studios Florida might last forever. The very popular Shrek character meet and greet opened in a new location, The previous location needed to be taken over by the apparent Rise of Gru…well maybe the Minions in that area.
Universal Orlando announced on July 14th that the new location for Shrek characters meet and greet area. Universal Orlando announced the popular meet and greet experience with Shrek and his wisecracking sidekick Donkey is back at Universal Orlando Resort in a new location within Universal Studios Florida. This new location resides in a repurposed former Barney merchandise area. Since the Barney show went away then this spot makes a perfect option for Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey to interact with guests. Universal Orlando said, on July 14th that guests can meet these beloved characters in the KidZone area of the theme park – right next to DreamWorks Destination.
If you are unfamiliar with the DreamWorks Destination area, this took over the former Barney show area. In DreamWorks Destination, guests interact with characters in a high action dance party style setting. Of course, that setting offers air conditioning also. Many parents love that area if it is just for air conditioning.
The new Shrek character interaction area will continue to be wacky. “Donkey” will continue to show a more “Universal” style of interaction with guests. As Universal Orlando stated, “this meet and greet brings guests face to face with fan-favorite characters from the famous DreamWorks Animation film franchise, Shrek, for a photo op with Duloc’s most famous Ogre and even some witty banter with his noble steed, Donkey, for non-stop laughs.” Universal Orlando also wanted guests to know that Princess Fiona makes an appearance at select times to join the fun. The return of Donkey especially will bring new enthusiasm to the KidZone area. For most guests, this will bring another reason to enter KidZone besides the E.T. attraction. If you choose to chat with Shrek and Donkey, have a camera rolling. You never know what Donkey might say and/or say about you. All hail the return of the Shrek guest interaction area!
